Ocular abnormalities among patients with Down syndrome

Introduction Ocular abnormalities among down syndrome (DS) patients are a sensitive issue since the DS is minor group in general population.Objectives This study determined prevalence of visual acuity, refractive errors, and ocular diseases patients; analyzed association between errors (age, gender, type squint); compared results with similar studies other countries.Methods Clinical examination eye included assessment cyloplegic refraction motility. The acuity was evaluated according to patient’s intelligence responsiveness. sample size 50 children. All members Palestinian Association were subject investigation after giving consent form from parents.Results Results showed that 27 boys 23 girls age range 10–16 years suffering DS. majority 6/60 (22%) minority 6/6 (8%). Astigmatism (40%) highest abnormality followed by hyperopia (36%), whereas low myopia (14%) both genders.Conclusion revealed astigmatism. These suggest influence environmental quality. recommends investigating quality population.
